~ Course Overview

This five-day nationally recognised training course will provide the theoretical and practical knowledge required to operate a Portal Boom crane, which can be defined as and covers a crane mounted on a portal frame, which is supported along runways which the crane may travel. 

NOTE: This unit is does not meet the requirements for the national High Risk License CB – Bridge and Gantry Crane, which is the requirement for an overhead crane where the operator is located in a cabin situtated upon the gantry, or at a similar level. The unit required for a CB licence is TLILIC3003A.

~ Recommended For

Any person who has the requirement to shift loads utilising a pendant or remote control type gantry or overhead crane.

~ Pre-requisites

The participant must have a sound knowledge of the English language and basic mathematical concepts.

~ Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this training, the participant will be able to:

  • Apply legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for the operation of a gantry or overhead crane
  • Calculate volume, weights
  • Access interpret and apply technical crane information
  • Maintain crane equipment records
  • Use hand tools
  • Apply fault finding techniques with cranes
  • Comply with environmental requirements
  • Dispose of environmentally sensitive fluids and materials

~ Assessment

Theoretical assessment for this unit comprises a closed book and unassisted written knowledge assessment of approximately 95 questions. The assessment will further include approximately 3 questions on mathematical calculations. There will also be a practical assessment of competency consisting of various load-shifting related tasks. Your assessor will be a qualified WorkSafe WA assessor.

~ Training Staff

All training personnel have many years experience in the construction and mining industry, as well as holding the relevant certification for training and assessing and are committed to providing participants with the best possible training services. Your trainer will be a qualified Cert IV trainer / assessor with industry experience in this field.

~ Location

Training can be conducted on-site Australia wide or at our training centre located at 12 Sparks Road, Henderson, Perth, WA. Training may also be conducted internationally. Practical training must be conducted on site where a suitable gantry or overhead  crane is readily available.

~ Alternative Learning Methods

The preferred method of delivery of this course is intensive, classroom and practical based learning, however alternative methods of delivery are available for this unit. The participant, after enrolling with Coastal Enterprises (WA) Pty Ltd for this course, may undertake workplace (on-the job) training for this course under the supervision and instruction of an experienced operator in this plant. With workplace training, assessment will still be required by a Coastal Enterprises (WA) Pty Ltd Assessor to ensure the participant meets the competency standards required for this unit. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is also offered for this unit, and on proof of evidence the course time may be reduced to asssessment time only.

~ Inclusions

All learning materials (including a comprehensive learner guide), consumables & equipment. Tea, coffee and chilled/filtered water are also provided on public courses.

~ Required Resources

  • Hardened-toe Safety Work Boots (MUST be supplied and worn by the participant)
  • Hard Hat
  • Stationary
  • 100 points of Identification
  • Current WorkSafe License (if previously obtained).
  • An pendant or remote control type gantry or overhead crane will be required for this training. The client must arrange access for a an appropriate gantry or overhead crane to be utilised during the practical aspects of this training course and assessment.
