~ Course Overview

This four-hour nationally recognised training course will provide the theoretical and practical knowledge required to select extinguishment methods and extinguish small fires of differing fuel sources

At the completion of this course the participant will receive a Statement of Attainment, as well as a wallet card denoting that the candidate has received a Statement of Attainment for this unit.

~ Recommended For

Any person who has the possible requirement to respond to a fire emergency situation or to use a fire extinguisher, fire blanket or hose reel to control a small fire prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

~ Pre-requisites

The participant must have a sound knowledge of the English language.

~ Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this training, the participant will be able to:

    • Explain fire theory, including the triangle of combustion.
    • Select and utilise the correct first attack firefighting equipment for different types of fires
    • Understand the basic methods of locating a fire
    • Explain how water pressure influences the discharge distance of hose reels
    • Understand the key actions in a fire emergency based on the acronym RACE
    • Explain the meaning of primary and secondary damage
    • Appreciate why cooking oil and fate fires require special attention
    • Understand the different types and operations of fire protection equipment classified as first attack equipment.

      ~ Assessment

      Theoretical assessment for this unit comprises a written knowledge assessment of approximately 21 questions. There will also be a practical assessment of competency consisting of various fire emergency simulations. 

      ~ Training Staff

      All training personnel have many years experience in the construction and mining industry, as well as holding the relevant certification for training and assessing and are committed to providing participants with the best possible training services.

      ~ Location

      Training can be conducted on-site Australia wide or at our training centre located at 12 Sparks Road, Henderson, Perth, WA. Training may also be conducted internationally. 

      ~ Alternative Learning Methods

      There are no current alternative delivery meothods available for this unit. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is offered for this unit. Contact our office for more details.

      ~ Inclusions

      All learning materials (including a comprehensive learner guide), consumables & equipment. Tea, coffee and chilled/filtered water are also provided on public courses.

      • 100 points of Identification

      NOTE: For onsite training, Coastal Enterprises (WA) Pty Ltd is able to provide  flameless, simulated fire training aids. This means that fire training can be conducted during times of fire-ban, or if live fire is not permitted on site.
